A walk through the Central Business District in New Orleans
The Central Business District in New Orleans mid-November, 2011. Walking from Poydras to Canal Street.
I often muse about the buildings that were on a particular site, before the current structure. In the NOLA CBD and in NYC, wood houses were replaced by brick lowrise buildings, then cast-iron 6 story structures, then on some sites, "skyscrapers". At 217 Broadway in New York, the Astor House office building replaced the Astor Hotel in the 1920s. Across the street, you see an office building where the American Museum by P.T. Barnum stood.
